FS to visit Europe

     The Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, will depart for a visit to three European cities, namely Paris, France; Brussels, Belgium; and Zurich, Switzerland, in the early hours tomorrow (May 18) to introduce and promote Hong Kong's new developments and opportunities as an international financial centre, in order to attract investment and promote exchanges.

     While in Paris on May 18 and 19, Mr Chan will attend the "No Money for Terror" Ministerial Conference on Counter-Terrorism Financing. The conference is organised by France, gathering delegations from over 80 countries and regions to strengthen global collaboration and combat the fundraising of terrorists. Furthermore, Mr Chan will also meet with local political, business, financial and think tank leaders.

     During his visit to Brussels on May 20, Mr Chan will visit relevant organisations of the European Union, and meet with local political and corporate representatives.

     During his visit to Zurich on May 21 and 22, Mr Chan will attend a number of roundtable meetings with major local financial institutions, family offices, as well as venture capitals and private equity funds.

     Mr Chan will depart from Zurich at noon on May 22 (Zurich time) and return to Hong Kong in the morning of May 23 (Hong Kong time). During his absence, the Deputy Financial Secretary, Mr Michael Wong, will be the Acting Financial Secretary.
