With the Environment and Ecology Bureau and the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Exchange Office of the China Association for Science and Technology as advisors, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) and the Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology jointly held the Green I&T Day 2023 today (September 14). The Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, Mr Eric Pang, led a delegation to attend the event held in Guangzhou. The event attracted over 200 participants from sectors including innovation and technology (I&T), the electrical and mechanical trade, universities and public organisations in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). Over 100 000 views were recorded for the live broadcast.

The Green I&T Day 2023 included various seminars where experts from Hong Kong and the Mainland shared their experience in adopting I&T to reduce carbon emissions, under the themes of "green transformation" and "journey to carbon neutrality". The event also brought together 15 local and Mainland exhibitors to showcase their I&T achievements in energy conservation and new and renewable energy.

At the event, the EMSD signed the "Memorandum of Co-operation on Green Intelligent Technology and Artificial Intelligence Standards for Electrical and Mechanical Systems of Buildings" with the Guangdong Provincial Academy of Building Research Group Co., Ltd. and the Guangdong Province Construction Technology and Standardization Association to facilitate research and preparation of technical guidelines, deepen application of artificial intelligence and develop green intelligent and digitalisation technologies among the three signing parties.

Delivering a video speech at the opening ceremony, the Secretary for the Environment and Ecology, Mr Tse Chin-wan, said that to follow the country's directive of the "dual carbon" target, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is striving to achieve carbon neutrality before 2050 and pursuing to reduce Hong Kong's carbon emissions by 50 per cent before 2035 as compared to the 2005 level. He stated that the event not only showcased the achievements of green I&T technologies in the GBA, but also provided a high-level exchange platform for green and low-carbon development.

Mr Pang expressed that the event deepened the exchange of knowledge and experience in green I&T, contributing to building a more liveable and sustainable GBA.
