Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     A 24-month-old girl was taken to the Accident and Emergency Department of a private hospital for fever and cough on October 26 and was transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital on the next day (October 27). The girl tested positive for COVID-19 and presented with croup symptoms. She has not received COVID-19 vaccination and is currently receiving treatment in the paediatric intensive care unit of Princess Margaret Hospital. She is now in critical condition and requires ventilatory support.
 
     The Hospital Authority (HA) urges parents to step up the protection of their children and arrange for them to receive COVID-19 vaccination as soon as possible to reduce the risks of death or falling seriously ill should they unfortunately get infected.
 
     As at 0.00am today (October 28), a total of 1 949 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 are currently hospitalised for treatment, including 240 new patients. Currently, there are 178 patients requiring oxygen therapy and 11 patients requiring ventilator support. Among the patients staying in isolation facilities, 389 patients are in isolation wards, 118 patients are in second-tier isolation wards and 516 patients are in the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, of which 152 in total are new patients. There are 10 newly reported critical patients and five newly reported serious patients. There are a total of 35 patients in critical condition and 40 are in serious condition, of which eight critical patients are receiving intensive care. Moreover, there are 211 patients who have recovered, including 187 patients who have been discharged. In addition, six patients who passed away in public hospitals were reported.
 
     In the fifth wave of the epidemic, there are 78 849 patients who have recovered so far, including 78 498 patients who have been discharged. And since early 2020, there are 91 229 patients who have recovered, including 90 878 patients who have been discharged.
 
     The HA will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
