SCED conducts home visits under "Celebrations for All" project in Central and Western District (with photos)

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, visited the elderly and families in need in Central and Western District under the "Celebrations for All" project today (June 2). He also took the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the latest developments of the district.

     Accompanied by the District Officer (Central and Western), Mrs Susanne Wong, Central and Western District Councillors and representatives and volunteers of social welfare and district organisations, Mr So visited grass-roots and elderly families in the district to learn more about their living conditions and needs. He also distributed gift packs to them to share the joy of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

     Mr So said he was glad to extend his warm regards to the elderly and the less privileged in Central and Western District through the home visits, which could help unite the community and build a caring and inclusive society. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers who joined the activity, and encouraged them to continue to serve the community and help those in need.

     Other officials participating in the home visits were the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Creative Industries), Miss Susie Ho; the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce, Industry and Tourism), Mr Philip Yung; the Deputy Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Creative Industries), Ms Julina Chan; and the Deputy Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce, Industry and Tourism), Ms Vivian Sum.

     After the home visits, Mr So visited the Conservancy Association Centre for Heritage (CACHe), a non-profit conservation group located at the Western District Community Centre. He was briefed on the various kinds of conservation activities the CACHe has organised for schools, the community and the public.

     Mr So also had exchanges with young people on participation in community services and business start-ups. He said Hong Kong offers young entrepreneurs the necessary support, resources and opportunities to turn their business ideas into reality. He encouraged them to make good use of Hong Kong's vibrant start-up ecosystem to set up new businesses.

     Before concluding his district visit, Mr So met with members of the Central and Western District Council to exchange views on district matters.
