Arrangement for relatives of elderly persons applying for CSSA on their own to make declarations on financial support to be abolished in February
******************************************************************************************
The Social Welfare Department (SWD) announced today (January 25) that the arrangement for relatives of elderly persons applying for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) on their own to make declarations on financial support (the so-called "bad son statement") will be abolished with effect from February 1.

It was announced in the 2017 Policy Address that, while maintaining the requirement that applicants under the CSSA Scheme must apply on a household basis, the Government will abolish the arrangement for the relatives concerned to make a declaration on whether they provide the elderly persons who apply for CSSA on their own (e.g. elderly persons who do not live with their children) with financial support. Only the elderly applicants will be required to submit information.

CSSA applicants/recipients who have enquiries may contact their respective social security field units or call the SWD hotline at 2343 2255.
