HK bans import of poultry meat and products from parts of US and Bhutan (17.4.2015)
The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (April 17) that in view of notifications from the United States (US) authorities about outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza in Roseau County and Otter Tail County in the US state of Minnesota, Barron County in the US state of Wisconsin, and Roberts County in the US state of South Dakota, and a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Thimphu District, Bhutan, it has banned the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the five areas concerned with immediate effect for the protection of Hong Kong's public health.
