A total of 333 Senior Police Call (SPC) members together sewed badges on 9,999 scarves, making a record of ˇ§Most people sewing simultaneouslyˇ¨ in the Guinness World Records to celebrate the SPC Second Anniversary today (February 5).
At the celebration ceremony today, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lo Wai-chung appointed members of the second SPC Central Advisory Board which comprises academics, professionals from elderly services, Road Safety Council members, District Fight Crime Committee members and community leaders, providing professional and strategic advices on the long-term development of the SPC.
To support the development of SPC, two new initiatives, namely SPC Captains System and SPC Honorary President System, were implemented last December and January 2016 respectively. Under the SPC Captains System, 330 SPC members were appointed as SPC Captains who act as a bridge between SPC members and the Police Force so as to enhance two-way communication, as well as assist in organising SPC activities. The SPC Honorary President System was implemented to invite community leaders to strengthen the SPC network in Police Districts.
Mr Lo, together with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr Wong Chi-hung, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management), Mr Chau Kwok-leung and the Chairman of the SPC Central Advisory Board, Mr Yu Tat-chung, officiated at the celebration ceremony today. Some 500 elders and guests also attended the event.
The SPC, established in February 2014, aims to promote crime prevention, fight crime, domestic and road safety messages to the elderly, provide a platform for the elderly to participate in meaningful activities as well as serve the community. As at today, the SPC has more than 5,500 members.
