LCSD enhances beach cleanup to echo "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign (with photos)
**********************************************************

To tie in with the "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will implement a series of initiatives in addition to its continuous efforts to keep all venues clean, including stepping up cleaning at three beaches that are more prone to marine refuse accumulation, namely Hoi Mei Wan Beach in Tsuen Wan District and Pui O Beach and Hung Shing Yeh Beach in Islands District.

The LCSD today (August 25) arranged cleansing contractor staff to carry out a special cleanup operation at Pui O Beach. About 100 additional ad-hoc cleaning operations will be conducted in the wet season from April to October, especially after the passage of typhoons, strong monsoons or rainstorms, at the three beaches.

A spokesman for the LCSD said that the department spares no efforts in maintaining the cleanliness of public bathing beaches to enable beach-goers to enjoy swimming, sunbathing and various kinds of activities.

The department also welcomes community groups to help clean up beaches, and would render assistance and support. Different community organisations are planning to assist in clean-up at the LCSD's beaches.

Also to echo the "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign, the department will enhance clean-up arrangements at popular outdoor leisure venues for moon watching, such as parks, beaches and barbecue sites, during the Mid-Autumn Festival with around 1 000 cleaning staff on duty.

The LCSD hopes public awareness on beach cleanliness and keeping places clean and tidy, including not littering, burning wax or flying sky lanterns, will be heightened through the Campaign. It also calls on the groups and community organisations concerned to work together to keep Hong Kong clean.
