Delegation of DC chairmen and vice chairmen continue visit to Beijing and Tianjin (with photos)
***********************************************************

The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, and chairmen and vice chairmen of the 18 District Councils (DCs) continued their visit to Beijing and Tianjin today (January 11).

The delegation first attended a seminar by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Basic Law Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress in the morning. Members then took a ride on the Beijing-Tianjin intercity train to Tianjin in the afternoon. In addition to visiting the community in Qingyou Xili and the Tianjin Cultural Centre, the delegation also called on the Mayor of Tianjin, Mr Huang Xingguo, to know more about the city's latest developments. Members then attended a dinner reception hosted by him.

Qingyou Xili is a community in Tianjin with a residents' committee that allows participation of residents in the management of the district. The Tianjin Cultural Centre is a vast compound with projects including the Tianjin Library, the Tianjin Museum, the Tianjin Art Gallery Museum, the Tianjin Grand Theatre and the Tianjin Youth Children Centre.

Mr Tsang said that the visit had strengthened exchanges and communication on all levels between Hong Kong and Bejing and Tianjin. Seeing for themselves community building and cultural and arts facilities in the two cities would be conducive to DCs' implementation of district administration work in the future.

The delegation will visit the Tianjin Planning Exhibition Hall and the final assembly line of Airbus A320 tomorrow (January 12) morning and will return to Hong Kong in the afternoon.
