The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, today (October 10) visited the new biodiesel plant of ASB Biodiesel (Hong Kong) Ltd in Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate. The plant is the 3 000th investment project completed by Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) and its first from Bahrain.
Mr So congratulated the company on setting up its new plant in Hong Kong and expressed his appreciation for its vote of confidence by choosing Hong Kong for investment.
With the Chief Executive Officer of ASB Biodiesel (Hong Kong) Ltd, Mr Anthony Dixon, Mr So toured the plant's advanced facilities, which occupy a total space of 18,000 square metres. The ASB Biodiesel plant is not only the largest biodiesel plant in Hong Kong, but also the first in Asia to make use of advanced multi-feedstock technology to transform waste into biodiesel.
Mr So was pleased to note the significant number of job opportunities created during the construction and the operation of the plant. He is confident that the company will find many new commercial opportunities through investments in environmental services and infrastructure in Hong Kong.
"With Hong Kong's unique business advantages and our status as a free port, we provide an ideal platform for ASB Biodiesel to operate successfully, and a great place to showcase its innovative business model to other cities around the region.
"The Government is committed to supporting investments in green technology in Hong Kong.
"We look forward to the many benefits that biodiesel will bring Hong Kong, including recycling some of our waste, improving our air quality and reducing our carbon intensity," Mr So said.
He added that InvestHK would continue to work hard in assisting and supporting overseas and Mainland companies to set up or expand their businesses in Hong Kong, bringing even more benefits to the local economy.
