New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival at Sha Tin Park (with photos)
********************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will hold the New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival at Sha Tin Park and Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza cum City Art Square to celebrate the advent of the New Year. The carnival will start at 8.30pm on December 31 (Saturday) and continue until 12.15am on New Year's Day. Admission is free.

One of the highlights will be "Herbert's Dream" by French arts group Cie des Quidams, featuring enigmatic fantasy elves. These little white figures, on stilts, will slowly transform into 4-metre-high illuminated giant elves. Accompanied by bewitching music, they will perform a magic ritual that will make a star rise up in the sky and take the audience on a dream-like journey.

A variety of delightful entertainment programmes will also be showcased, including tap dancers from Japan, local bands C AllStar and Supper Moment, magician Louis Yan and many other talented young artists performing music, dance, giant puppetry and wushu, creating a fascinating world for the countdown and celebrating the New Year.

In addition, famous local cartoons and animations such as "Older Master Cute", "McDull, Kung Fu Kindergarten" and selected works by local animation makers will be shown. Carnival-goers may also participate in the light painting workshop and other interesting games to demonstrate their creativity and skills.

The climax of the carnival will be the countdown to 2012 and at midnight a pyrotechnic show from the roofs of Sha Tin Town Hall and Sha Tin Public Library will light up the sky.

The LCSD urges members of the public to help keep the public areas clean and to respect public property. Aerosol sprays, metallic balloons and bottles are prohibited at the venues.
