The Economic Summit on "China's 11th Five-Year
Plan and the Development of Hong Kong" will be held on September
11, 2006 (Monday) in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The Chief Executive had invited 33 personalities from the industrial
and business, professional, labour and academic sectors to attend
the Economic Summit. A plenary discussion session will be held
in the morning. In the afternoon, the panelists will each join
one of the four concurrent focus groups on "Trade and Business", "Financial
Services", "Maritime, Logistics and Infrastructure",
and "Professional Services, Information & Technology and
Tourism" for detailed discussions on relevant issues.
The objective of the Economic Summit is to provide a platform
for the Government, the industrial and business, professional,
labour and academic sectors to discuss how Hong Kong should respond
to the challenges and opportunities arising from the 11th Five-Year
Plan and to come up with a set of strategic proposals.
After the Economic Summit, the four focus groups will continue
to meet to discuss in depth the range of strategic proposals identified
at the Summit, with a view to each submitting an "Action Agenda" setting
out specific follow-up actions to the Chief Executive by the end
of the year.
