Fatal traffic accident in Tsing Yi

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Tsing Yi today (May 14) in which a man died.

     At 5.13pm, a medium goods vehicle (MGV) driven by a 52-year-old man was travelling along North West Tsing Yi Interchange towards Kowloon. It was reported to have failed to stop in time and rammed into a stationary private car that had broken down, as well as a light goods vehicle (LGV) and its 64-year-old male driver. It was reported that the male LGV driver was providing assistance to the private car on the carriageway.

    Sustaining serious leg injuries, the male LGV driver was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 6.03pm.

     A 52-year-old male private car driver; a foreign male passenger and three foreign female passengers of the private car, aged between 36 and 46, sustained injuries to their heads, necks and limbs, were sent to Princess Margaret Hospital in conscious state.

     The male MGV driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for further enquiries.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is under way.
