Remarks by SITI at media session
********************************
The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong, met the media together with the Permanent Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry and Chairman of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park Limited (HSITP), Mr Kevin Choi, and the Chief Executive Officer of the HSITP, Mr Vincent Ma, today (December 22). Following are the remarks by Professor Sun:

Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry: Today, we are so delighted to join the Chief Executive and a number of distinguished guests in witnessing the official opening of the Hong Kong Park of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone. This marks a significant milestone in the development of the Hetao Hong Kong Park with an accelerated pace and enhanced efficiency under the leadership of the Chief Executive.

This year marks the conclusion of the National 14th Five-Year Plan. Today, the opening of the Hetao Hong Kong Park holds profound significance. This event not only underscores Hong Kong's proactive participation in and contribution to our national strategic development but also serves as a demonstration of Hong Kong's active role and substantial contribution to the national science and technology innovation strategy.

The Hetao Hong Kong Park covers 87 hectares; together with another 210 hectares of I&T (innovation and technology) land in the San Tin Technopole, it is a key component of Hong Kong's new strategic layout of a South-North dual engine (finance-I&T). The Hong Kong Park will adopt a model of R&D (research and development) plus pilot production, prioritising the development of cutting-edge technologies in certain areas including life and health sciences, medical technology, AI and robotics, new energy and high-end smart manufacturing. The Park will attract leading enterprises to set up R&D centres and pilot production lines, supporting the entire process from R&D to production.

At present, more than 60 local, Mainland and overseas enterprises and institutions have successfully settled in the Hetao Hong Kong Park. These companies and organisations are attracted by the geographical advantage, forthcoming cross-boundary policy measures and, more importantly, the huge potential and opportunity possessed by the Greater Bay Area (GBA) development. Hong Kong possesses the unique advantage of connecting Mainland and overseas markets, which can help Mainland companies to go global, at the same time facilitating overseas companies in using the Hetao Hong Kong Park as a springboard to enter the GBA and Mainland markets.

Moving forward, we will focus on rolling out the remaining land in Phase 1 development and pressing ahead with the planning for Phase 2. We will expedite the construction of the remaining five buildings and make sure all these five buildings will be ready starting from 2027.

The Hetao Hong Kong Park will take today's opening as a new starting point. Leveraging the strengths of "one country, two systems" with the geographical advantage of "one river, two banks", we will accelerate collaboration with the Shenzhen Park to build a core engine for regional innovation development. We are now happy to take a few questions from you. Thank you.
