In the morning, Mr Lee delivered a speech at the Hong Kong - The Ideal Platform for Mainland Enterprises in Going Global Promotion Conference (the Promotion Conference) organised by the HKSAR Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, highlighting Hong Kong's advantages as an international platform for going global.
In the afternoon, Mr Lee met with the Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Mr Chen Jining, and the Mayor of Shanghai, Mr Gong Zheng. The Executive Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Xu Qifang, also attended the meeting. Mr Lee extended his congratulations on the successful opening of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and expressed his wishes for its success. He expressed gratitude to the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Shanghai Municipal Government for their support to the HKSAR Government in holding the Promotion Conference during this year's CIIE.
Mr Lee noted that Hong Kong enjoys the dual advantage of having both national and global opportunities under the "one country, two systems" principle, playing the role of a "super connector" and "super value-adder". The Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global (GoGlobal Task Force), proposed in his latest Policy Address, has already commenced its work with dedication, further leveraging the role of Hong Kong as a platform for overseas expansion. As the first large-scale publicity event on the Mainland organised by the GoGlobal Task Force, the Promotion Conference is of great significance. Mr Lee welcomed more Shanghai and Mainland enterprises to use Hong Kong as a springboard in exploring overseas markets and pursuing development together.
Mr Lee also thanked the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Shanghai Municipal Government for their emphasis and support on Shanghai-Hong Kong co-operation over the years. Since the establishment of the Hong Kong/Shanghai Co-operation Conference mechanism in 2003, Shanghai and Hong Kong have collaborated closely in various areas such as the economy and trade, finance, innovation and technology, and cultural and youth exchanges, yielding fruitful results.
Noting that the International Board of the Shanghai Gold Exchange launched its first offshore gold delivery vault in Hong Kong this June, Mr Lee said that the HKSAR Government will continue to work with Shanghai to promote gold trading co-operation. He remarked that with Shanghai's active development in artificial intelligence and Hong Kong's efforts in leveraging its strengths in research, capital, data and talent to develop into an international innovation and technology centre, the two places could synergise and jointly develop a global hub for artificial intelligence. He expressed his confidence that Shanghai and Hong Kong will continue to complement each other's strengths, further promoting all-round, deep and multidisciplinary co-operation to jointly develop new quality productive forces.
