The eighth China International Import Expo (CIIE) is being held from today (November 5) to November 10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. A record high 380 Hong Kong enterprises from various industries are participating in this year's CIIE to promote quality Hong Kong products and services. The Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, led a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government delegation to attend the opening ceremony and related events today.

Mr Lee, together with the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau, attended the opening ceremony of the CIIE and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum (Hongqiao Forum) this morning.

Later, Mr Lee accompanied Premier Li Qiang in touring the Hong Kong exhibition area at the China Pavilion. Under the theme "A Brilliant New Chapter of Connectivity between the Mainland and the World", the Hong Kong exhibition area showcased Hong Kong's dual advantages of having national and global opportunities under the "one country, two systems" principle and the top international rankings achieved across various fields, as well as the significant impetus from  increasing development momentum and improving livelihoods continuously.

In the afternoon, Mr Lee, accompanied by Mr Yau and the Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Professor Frederick Ma, visited the Hong Kong Food Pavilion and the Hong Kong Service Pavilion set up by the HKTDC at the Enterprise and Business Exhibition to support Hong Kong enterprises. A total of 54 Hong Kong enterprises, of which more than 40 per cent are joining the CIIE for the first time, are showcasing quality products and services covering food, innovation and technology (I&T), healthcare technology, professional services, logistics and information technologies at the two pavilions with a total area of 1 500 square metres, demonstrating Hong Kong's brand advantages and competitiveness including Hong Kong enterprises' active integration of I&T into products and services, with a view to promoting the advantages of Hong Kong in developing into an international I&T centre at full speed, and at the same time they are further highlighting Hong Kong's role as a two-way platform for attracting foreign investment and for enterprises to go global.

The Invest Hong Kong's booth at the Hong Kong Service Pavilion highlights Hong Kong's competitive advantages, while the exhibition area of the Hong Kong Tourism Board showcases the latest tourism features of Hong Kong.

In the evening, Mr Lee and the delegation will attend a dinner with Hong Kong people and representatives of Hong Kong enterprises in Shanghai to learn about their daily lives and developments. He will encourage them to continue serving as an essential bridge, actively promoting Hong Kong's strengths and development opportunities, and telling the good stories of Hong Kong to further enhance economic and trade developments, as well as people-to-people exchanges between the two places and contribute to the high-quality development of the country and Hong Kong.

Mr Lee will meet with leaders of Shanghai tomorrow (November 6), and attend with Mr Yau the Hong Kong - The Ideal Platform for Mainland Enterprises in Going Global Promotion Conference organised by the HKSAR Government and the HKTDC. Mr Yau will also speak at the sub-forum entitled "Facilitating Cross-Border Trade's Resilience through Maritime Trade Finance" of the Hongqiao Forum.
