Digital Policy Office holds second AI+ Civil Services Technology Forum (with photos)
************************************************************************************
The Digital Policy Office (DPO) held the second Technology Forum in its AI+ Civil Services series at Cyberport today (November 4). The forum, themed "Decision Power-Up - Knowledge Work & Data Insights Drive Innovation", was held in a hybrid format and attracted nearly 800 professionals from nearly 100 government departments, as well as public and private organisations, to jointly explore and promote the use of AI in transforming business processes and improving work efficiency.

Addressing the opening ceremony, the Commissioner for Digital Policy, Mr Tony Wong, stated that the DPO will roll out various AI tools in areas such as data analysis, customer services and document processing, etc, to promote extensive applications across departments in a secure and well-governed manner. To strengthen the governance and risk management of AI applications, the DPO has released the AI Adoption Guide for Government Bureaux and Departments, the Ethical Artificial Intelligence Framework, and the Hong Kong Generative Artificial Intelligence Technical and Application Guideline. These publications cover practical guidance and ethical principles for the development and use of AI, and help government departments and various sectors apply AI safely and responsibly.

At the forum, a number of government departments, public organisations and technology companies were invited to share and exchange technical insights on the application of AI under themes including "Writing and Content Creation", "Creativity and Promotional Marketing", and "Data Analysis and Prediction". Among the sharing sessions, the Hospital Authority shared how AI assists doctors in drafting medical reports, thereby effectively reducing workloads; the Census and Statistics Department has optimised statistical processes and data services using AI; Cyberport outlined how government departments can transit from AI model development to practical deployment; and the Hong Kong Productivity Council showcased its AI solutions. These exchanges provided government departments with a deeper understanding of the latest AI products and solutions from the innovation and technology (I&T) industry, as well as how AI can be applied to enhance the speed and efficiency of public services.

This forum was organised by the Smart Government Innovation Lab (Smart Lab) under the DPO in collaboration with Cyberport, the Hong Kong Productivity Council and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. The Smart Lab has been committed to connecting the Government with the I&T sector, actively fostering close partnerships between local start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, and government departments. Through regularly organising promotional activities and technology exchange workshops, the Smart Lab supports and assists government departments in accelerating the introduction of local innovative technology products and solutions to facilitate business matching and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

To promote the wider adoption of AI across government departments, the DPO will continue to launch promotional activities and technology forums under the AI+ Civil Services series. Interested parties are encouraged to stay engaged and participate in the upcoming events. For more details, please visit the website of the Smart Lab (www.smartlab.gov.hk/en/).
