Remarks by SLW on Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance
**************************************************************
Following are the remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Chris Sun, on Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance after attending Child Protection - Launching Ceremony of the Guide for Mandated Reporters this afternoon (July 24):

Reporter: How will this Ordinance change the way child abuse cases are handled in Hong Kong? What is included in the new guide and how will it help professionals on the ground? Will there be any kind of training or support that mandated reporters will receive to ensure they can identify and report child abuse correctly?

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: The aim of the Guide for Mandated Reporters is to provide a practical guideline to help all the professionals under the law who have the legal obligations to report child abuse cases. Apart from the usual practice of publishing a guideline covering all the requirements and setting out all the scenarios, this time around we have also decided to create an electronic version which the professionals concerned could click onto the website and by answering a series of questions, they will be led to a conclusion under the system telling them whether or not the case concerned is one that he or she has to report under the law, or one that is not required under the law to make a report. The purpose is to help all the professionals to discharge their legal obligations under the law.

(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the remarks.)
