SED visits City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) (with photos)

     The Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin, today (September 14) visited City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) and received a briefing by the university's management on the progress of its campus development.
 
     Accompanied by the Chairman of the Council of City University of Hong Kong, Mr Lester Garson Huang, Dr Choi toured the campus and various teaching and research facilities. She said she was pleased to learn that the first phase of the campus construction had officially completed last month and that the university was pressing ahead with the preparatory work for its official establishment.
 
     Dr Choi said that the Education Bureau supports Hong Kong's higher education institutions to pursue different forms of collaboration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Mainland cities, leveraging the characteristics and competitive edges of Hong Kong's higher education sector, creating favourable conditions for scientific research and development, knowledge transfer and commercialisation, as well as promoting exchanges and research activities of high academic standard among teachers and students in the GBA. Dr Choi hoped that with its first-class educational resources and strengths in various disciplines, City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan), upon its official commissioning, will contribute to the nurturing of innovative and internationalised top-notch talent for the country.
 
     In addition, Dr Choi visited Tsinglan School in Dongguan with Legislative Council Member Mr Chu Kwok-keung and a delegation from the education sector yesterday (September 13) to meet the school representatives and learn about the school's bilingual and international education philosophy and practical experience. They then toured the headquarters of Huawei to understand the latest innovation and technology development on the Mainland. On the same day, Dr Choi also visited China Scivest WTE Plant of Canvest Environmental Protection Group Company Limited in Dongguan to learn about related initiatives on environmental protection education.
 
     Dr Choi concluded her visit to Dongguan and returned to Hong Kong this afternoon.
