Senior Police Call Share the Love 2023 (with photos)

     Senior Police Call (SPC) officially launched the “SPC Share the Love 2023” today (May 13) to express care and love to the elderly and the people in need.

     Officiating at the kick-off ceremony held at the Police Sports and Recreation Club, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Siu Chak-yee, expressed gratitude to the community for their support in making the SPC annual highlight a resounding success. He added that the event promotes the SPC spirit of “helping oneself and others” and assists the Police to disseminate anti-crime and safety messages. The Commissioner also took the opportunity to call on the SPC members to remind their relatives and friends to stay vigilant against telephone deceptions.

     During the ceremony, a Chinese drum performance was staged by Mong Kok District SPC members together with students from the Shanghai Alumni Primary School Drum Troupe, a school club of the Eastern District Junior Police Call. In addition, Mr Anderson Junior, was invited as special guest to join with the SPC members in a drama performance to promote anti-deception messages.

     This year, the scale of “SPC Share the Love” has fully resumed after epidemic. Prior to the ceremony, SPC Central Advisory Board (CAB) members and SPC members of different police districts worked together to make wishing cards and pack blessing bags with love and care. After the ceremony, Mr Siu Chak-yee and the Director of Operations, Mr Chan Joon-sun, another officiating guest, visited Yan Chai Hospital Tang Bik Wan Memorial Neighbourhood Elderly Centre in Shek Kip Mei and Sik Sik Yuen Ho Yee Neighbourhood Centre for Senior Citizens in Wong Tai Sin respectively, to distribute the blessing bags with food, daily necessities, wishing cards and anti-deception leaflets to the elderly.

     From today until May 19, “SPC Fight Crime Vigour” publicity trucks will tour across the territory to disseminate crime prevention messages. SPC members from all the 22 police districts will also distribute blessing bags to the people in need to echo the Force’s motto of “Serving Hong Kong”. The members would also wish to promote the spirit of “Love and Care” to the needy in the community, in pursuit of SPC spirit of “helping oneself and others”.

     Other officiating guests of the ceremony included the Chairperson of SPC CAB cum the Regional Commander of Hong Kong Island, Mr Kwok Ka-chuen; the Vice-Chairperson of SPC CAB cum the Chief Superintendent of Public Relations Wing, Ms Tsang Shuk-yin; and representatives of SPC CAB, Dr Albert Wong; Dr Dominic Chu Chun-ho; Mr Wilfred Ng Sau-kei; and Dr Malcolm Lam Wai-wing.

     Launched in February 2014 with the motto- “SPC Spirit Helping Oneself and Others”, the SPC Scheme is open to anyone aged 55 or above. Through this scheme, the Hong Kong Police Force hopes to provide an effective platform for the elderly to maintain close contacts with the Force, raise their awareness of crime prevention and boost their sense of belonging to the community.
