*****************************************************************************************
The Commission on Children (CoC) today (May 5) held an engagement session for collecting views of children and relevant stakeholders on the challenges of resuming normal school life after the COVID-19 epidemic. The Secretary for Labour and Welfare and Vice-chairperson of the CoC, Mr Chris Sun, and the Secretary for Education and ex-officio member of the CoC, Dr Choi Yuk-lin, joined the session to listen to views from children on the resumption of normalcy and resuming normal school life through interactive games.

The engagement session is the first activity under the theme "Walk with Kids" of the CoC. Through a series of publicity initiatives and engagement sessions on different themes throughout the year, the "Walk with Kids" thematic campaign aims to raise public awareness of child protection and enhance their understanding on the core values of promoting the well-being of children and the work of the CoC in different dimensions.

The engagement session was held in six parallel breakout sessions moderated by the non-official members of the CoC and attended by a total of some 60 primary and secondary school students as well as some 60 parents, principals, teachers, social workers and healthcare professionals. The participants expressed their views on the challenges of various aspects, including academics, social activities, and physical and mental health, being faced by children on the resumption of normalcy and resuming normal school life as well as corresponding support. The CoC will consolidate the views collected and relay them to relevant government bureaux and departments for reference and follow-up when formulating policies and work plans in the future.
