Hong Kong Organising Committee of 15th National Games set up
************************************************************
The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) today (May 2) announced the setting up of the Hong Kong SAR Organising Committee of the 15th National Games (Hong Kong Organising Committee) to plan for the organisation of the 15th National Games, as well as the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD) and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (NSOG), to be co-hosted by the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao authorities in 2025.

The National Games, held once every four years, is the nation's highest level and the largest national multi-sports event. The State Council announced in August 2021 that the 15th National Games would be co-hosted in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in 2025. This is the first time for Hong Kong to be a co-host of the National Games. The three sides will also co-host the 12th NGD and the 9th NSOG, to be held about one month after the 15th National Games.

The key areas of work of the Hong Kong Organising Committee are to maintain close contact with the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Macao SAR Government on the preparatory work of the 15th National Games, as well as to command and monitor the preparatory work of the sports competitions to be held in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Organising Committee held the first meeting today. The Chairman of the Hong Kong Organising Committee and the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, said, "It is very meaningful for Hong Kong to co-host the National Games with Guangdong and Macao. Further to the achievements of the Hong Kong, China Delegation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, the co-hosting will give sports development in Hong Kong another boost. It will also deepen the collaboration between Hong Kong and other cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and go in line with the objective of building a healthy Bay Area.

"It is a significant mission assigned by the Central Government for the Hong Kong SAR Government to be a co-host of the 15th National Games. The Hong Kong SAR Government will spare no effort to work closely with the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Macao SAR Government to conduct 'simple, safe and wonderful' National Games."
