Government and LegCo delegation led by CE continues duty visit in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (with photos)

     The delegation of the Government and the Legislative Council (LegCo), led by the Chief Executive, continued its duty visit in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and visited Shenzhen today (April 22) to learn about the city's latest development in the fields of innovation and technology and youth development.
    
     In the morning, the delegation visited the headquarters of new energy transport manufacturer, BYD Company Limited. They were briefed by the Chairman and President of BYD Company Limited, Mr Wang Chuanfu, on the various functions and applications of the electric cars developed by the company. Members also received briefings from representatives of the company on the research on projects involving rail transit and new energy to better understand the latest development of different new energy and innovation technology companies in the Mainland. Members then experienced firsthand the new energy rail transit system, SkyShuttle.
 
     The delegation was divided into two groups in the afternoon. The Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, the President of the LegCo, Mr Andrew Leung, and some Members visited Dajiang Innovations Technology Company Limited. They received a briefing on the applications of camera drones as well as handheld image devices, and observed a demonstration of camera drones.
 
     The Chief Executive and Members later visited the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub (E Hub). The delegation met with young entrepreneurs from Hong Kong to understand their start-up experiences and results, as well as the latest development of Qianhai. Opened in 2014, E Hub provides multi-dimensional start-up support and attracts a number of outstanding start-ups for the innovative entrepreneurship. More than 300 Hong Kong start-ups have been incubated at E Hub so far.
 
     The Chief Executive and Members then visited Dongguan and attended a dinner with leaders of the Dongguan Municipal Government. Delivering his speech at the dinner, the President of LegCo, Mr Andrew Leung, said the city's advanced manufacturing and technology industries allows Hong Kong to expand development opportunities in GBA. Mr Leung also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Dongguan Municipal Government for arranging the meeting.
 
     Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Eric Chan, and other Members visited Tencent in the afternoon to understand the business development of the internet company. Members were briefed by representatives of Tencent on the company's services and products, such as social media, artificial intelligence technologies and video games, etc, and learnt about the applications of innovation and technology, as well as artificial intelligence. They also exchanged views with young people from Hong Kong employed by Tencent through the Greater Bay Area Youth Employment Scheme.
 
     Members then visited the Nantou Ancient Town, in which the former Baoan county government was located before the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone was established. Members learnt that the ancient town has been revitalized into a distinctive attraction in recent years, incorporating diverse emerging industries, such as cultural, commercial and creative office spaces, catering and pop music.
 
     The delegation will continue its duty visit in two groups tomorrow (April 23) and visit Dongguan and Foshan separately.
 
     The delegation, led by the Chief Executive, visits four cities of GBA, namely Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan and Guangzhou, between April 21 and April 24.
