Immigration Service Institute of Training and Development Open Day to promote National Security Education Day (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
To support the National Security Education Day, the Immigration Service Institute of Training and Development (ISITD) held an open day today (April 15), attracting over 2 700 visitors to the event. The Immigration Department (ImmD) aimed to raise the national security and law-abiding awareness of members of the public through the open day's activities, including explanation and demonstrations on ImmD's daily work, exhibitions and guided tours, try-out sessions as well as booth games, etc. The event also introduced the values and missions of the ImmD in maintaining and implementing the principle of "one country, two systems", safeguarding national security and tightly guarding the country's southern gateway.

To tie in with the theme "National Security: Foundation of Stability and Prosperity" of the National Security Education Day this year, the ISITD set up various exhibition booths to introduce the technologies used in detecting suspect documents, work of counter-terrorism and tactical equipment through interactive activities to facilitate the public's understanding of the work of the ImmD in striving to safeguard national security and the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong, as well as its effectiveness. As a result, members of the public would be motivated to assume the obligations to safeguard national sovereignty, unification and territorial integrity.

Moreover, there was a booth set up by the Immigration Department Youth Leaders Corps (IDYL), where IDYL members shared moments of their training and activities. An exhibition was also held at the booth, with a virtual reality experience zone which gave members of the public a simulated journey to outer space from the spacecraft's launch to its landing onto Mars for scientific investigation, so that they could gain an understanding of "outer space security" and the country's remarkable achievements in aerospace science and technology.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Secretary for Justice, Mr Cheung Kwok-kwan, accompanied by directorate officers of the ImmD, visited the exhibitions and watched performances at the ISITD. To enhance the atmosphere of the event, the Immigration Band played multiple pieces of distinctive Chinese military band music and performed a band drill as an expression of the territory's best wishes to and affection for the Motherland. The Departmental Contingent lined up to form a five-pointed star symbolising the five essential elements of the Holistic View of National Security, with a view to raising public awareness of national security. Besides, the Emergency Response Team of the Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre demonstrated how to handle emergencies in the centre professionally and promptly with the use of various firearms and anti-riot equipment, which showcased the ImmD's response capabilities to resolve incidents endangering public security.
