The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:

The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) hosted the Estate Management Services Contractors Awards (EMSC Awards) 2022 presentation ceremony at the HA Headquarters in Ho Man Tin today (March 22). A total of 72 awards were presented to the services contractors and frontline staff in recognition of their outstanding performance in managing the HA's properties last year.

Officiating at the presentation ceremony, the Deputy Director of Housing (Estate Management), Mr Ricky Yeung, said, "We express our sincere gratitude for the full support of the services contractors in the anti-epidemic operations in public housing estates during the pandemic. They effectively completed many urgent tasks for protection of the health of residents. We will continue to work closely to improve the cleanliness and hygiene levels of public housing estates.

"The HA has strengthened daily cleaning and pest control work recently in public housing estates. With the assistance of services contractors, we successfully launched anti-rodent operations in the public housing estates and have effectively improved the rodent infestation problem. We hope everyone can work together to provide residents with a comfortable, tidy and healthy living environment."

To continuously strengthen the cleaning and rodent control work in public housing estates, the HA has set work targets to conduct about 500 joint cleaning operations every year with stakeholders to maintain the environmental hygiene of public housing estates. The Housing Department and the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department have established the Working Group on Rodent Prevention and Control in Public Rental Housing Estates managed by the HA, and regular meetings are held to review and update strategies. The HA has conducted anti-rodent operations in 80 priority estates in 2022-23.

The HA organises the annual EMSC Awards which encourages services contractors to strive for excellence in different areas of work.

The estates managed by the winners of the "Best Public Rental Housing Estate (Property Services) Large Estate" award this year include Choi Yuen Estate, Tak Long Estate, Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate, and Cheung Ching Estate, while the estates managed by the winners of the "Best Public Rental Housing Estate (Property Services) Small Estate" award include Cheung Sha Wan Estate, Fu Tung Estate and On Tin Estate.

The Awards in 2022 went to 19 services contractors providing property management, cleaning, security and car park operating services. Seven property services managers and 41 frontline staff members were also commended. The full list of awardees is in the Annex.

Currently, the management of more than half of the HA's public rental housing estates is outsourced to property services contractors, and many major maintenance tasks in the HA estates are being supervised by them. By leveraging the private sector's resources and experience in managing private properties, the HA works to continuously raise the quality of its estate management services and to provide a pleasant living environment for its tenants.
