STL leads delegation to visit logistics parks in Zhuhai (with photos)
*********************************************************************
The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr Lam Sai-hung, today (March 10) led more than 10 members of the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council (LOGSCOUNCIL) on a visit to the airport and logistics facilities in Zhuhai.

Mr Lam and his delegation travelled to Zhuhai via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) around noon and met with Deputy Mayor of the Zhuhai Municipal People's Government Mr Li Chong upon arrival. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening co-operation between Hong Kong and Zhuhai to promote co-operation on logistics and other areas, as well as further utilising the HZMB to enable the flow of people and goods between the two places.

"The governments of Hong Kong and Zhuhai have been vigorously deepening exchanges and co-operation under the principles of close co-operation, complementarity and mutual benefits, with a view to promoting the economic and social development of the two places. Through a deeper understanding of the development opportunities in Zhuhai and western Guangdong, we will be able to explore more diversified forms of collaboration to further promote the interlinking and development of various industries," Mr Lam said at the meeting.

After the meeting, Mr Lam and the delegation visited the Zhuhai Airport International Intelligent Logistics Park and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Logistics Park to learn more about the progress and planning of the projects.

"As Zhuhai strengthens its logistics industry and infrastructure, it is believed that this will bring new opportunities for co-operation between Hong Kong and Zhuhai. Moreover, to capitalise on the opportunities brought by the greatly shortened driving distance between the two airports in Hong Kong and Zhuhai following the commissioning of the HZMB, the two sides will explore developing international cargo business, so that goods from western Guangdong can be transported through Zhuhai onwards to Hong Kong International Airport and Hong Kong's port for transshipment to the rest of the world. Goods from overseas can also be imported into western Guangdong using the reverse route," Mr Lam said.

The LOGSCOUNCIL advises the Government on all aspects of sustaining and enhancing Hong Kong's position as a regional logistics hub. Chaired by the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, the LOGSCOUNCIL has 29 members. Apart from three government officials, the remaining 26 non-official members are from the logistics, shipping and air cargo industries in Hong Kong.
