About 1 000 musicians to perform in 2023 Fiesta of Music Office Bands, Choirs and Orchestras

     ​About 1 000 young musicians from 17 bands, choirs and orchestras of the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will jointly perform a variety of favourite classics with alumni at five concerts of the 2023 Fiesta of Music Office Bands, Choirs and Orchestras in April, as the baton is passed in the midst of melodious tunes.
 
     The Hong Kong Youth Strings, the Island Youth Strings, the Kowloon Youth Strings and the New Territories Youth Strings will perform at the first concert to be held at 7.30pm on April 2 (Sunday) at the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall. Instructor-alumni of the Music Office Dr Joseph Kam and Beatrice Lee will perform with the Hong Kong Youth Strings Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf's "Sinfonia Concertante for Viola, Double Bass and Orchestra in D Major" arranged by instructor-alumnus Kenny Choy.
 
     The second concert will be held at 3pm on April 9 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of Tuen Mun Town Hall, featuring the Music Office Youth Brass Band, the Kowloon Youth Symphonic Band and the New Territories Youth Symphonic Band. Instructor-alumni of the Music Office Jerry Chow and Alex Ko will perform a work selected from the soundtrack of film "The Mission" and a piece inspired by fairy tale "Dear Frog" respectively with one of the bands.
 
     The Island Youth Chinese Orchestra, the Kowloon Youth Chinese Orchestra, the New Territories Youth Chinese Orchestra and the Music Office Children's Chinese Orchestra will perform at the third concert to be held at 7.30pm on April 15 (Saturday) at the Arena of Queen Elizabeth Stadium. The concert will present music pieces including "Rite of Bumper Harvest", a work commissioned by the Music Office that depicts the celebrations of a good harvest.
 
     The fourth concert will be held at 3pm on April 16 (Sunday) at the Arena of Queen Elizabeth Stadium. The Music Office Junior Symphonic Band, the Hong Kong Children's Symphonic Band and the Music Office Junior Chinese Orchestra will perform a number of classics, including the "Pirates of the Caribbean Symphonic Suite" and "Joyful Heart of Childhood", a piece of Chinese music depicting the simple happiness of children.
 
     The finale concert, featuring the Music Office Junior Symphony Orchestra, the Music Office Youth Choir and the Music Office Children's Choir, will be held at 7.30pm on April 30 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall. The concert programme includes Mendelssohn's "Hear My Prayer" sung by alumnus Joyce Law with the Music Office Youth Choir and the world premiere of "Coagulated Sound" by local composer Austin Leung.
