LCSD to host free talk series "Cantonese Opera Libretti and Scripts - From Texts to Performance"

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will launch a talk series entitled "Cantonese Opera Libretti and Scripts - From Texts to Performance" during March 18 to March 25. Admission is free.
 
     This series of five talks will be hosted by veteran Cantonese opera artist Sun Kim-long. Acclaimed stars from different generations who are good at performing different role types will be invited to be speakers of the talks. They will share tips from off-stage plot and character interpretations to on-stage performances that make characters come alive as well as their experiences of interpreting and performing libretti by renowned local playwrights. Participants can learn more about Cantonese opera, a traditional performing arts form, from multiple perspectives.

Topic: Stylistic schools - the glorious variety in Cantonese opera

Topic: Veteran artistry - the gift of seasoned performers

Speaker: Song Hongbo
 
Topic: Mentoring - polishing diamonds in the rough to become flawless gems
Date and Time: March 25 (Saturday), 2.30pm
Speaker: Tse Hue-ying
 
     Sun Kim-long was trained under Cantonese opera master Wu Gongxia and later learned northern-style martial arts from Xu Junhan. Apart from stage performances, he is also actively involved in the promotion and production of Cantonese opera. His previous works include "Reflection of Beauties in Lotus Pond" and "The Green Jade Hairpin". He was awarded "Artist of the Year (Xiqu)" at the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2018 by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. In 2019, he was awarded a Medal of Honour by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. He is currently one of the Vice-Chairmen of the Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong.
