Applications open for 2023 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp

     ​The 2023 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp, organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), will be held between July and August in the form of day camps at designated music centres of the Music Office to offer training for young local musicians by renowned maestros and the instructors of the Music Office. Applications for the day camps are open today (March 1) for qualified young musicians aged 8 to 25.

     The 2023 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp for Children's Choir, Junior Chinese Orchestra, Junior String Orchestra and Symphonic Band will be held between July 31 and August 5, while the music camp for the Chinese Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra will be held between August 8 and 13. Participants of the music camps will perform in public concerts to be held at the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall after completion of the training to showcase their achievements. The camp fee for choral training is $750 for each camper while that for orchestral training is $900. Ticket sales of the public concerts at URBTIX will start from May 19.

     Meanwhile, new Wind Ensemble Conducting Masterclass and the Zheng Masterclass, which will take place from August 1 to 4 and August 10 respectively, are introduced into this year's music camp. The Wind Ensemble Conducting Masterclass invites school music teachers, orchestra conductors, music students or graduates of tertiary institutions, aged 18 to 30, to join as active participants with a camp fee of $1,800 per person. Persons aged 15 or above can also join as observers with a camp fee of $500 per person. The Zheng Masterclass welcomes persons aged 10 to 25 who have attained a specified level of zheng performance to join as on-site participants or online observers. Their camp fees are $450 and $100 per person respectively.

     The deadline for application for the choral and orchestral training is March 28 while applications for the Wind Ensemble Conducting Masterclass and the Zheng Masterclass will be open from May 10 to June 8.
