CP attends 24th INTERPOL Asian Regional Conference in Abu Dhabi (with photo)

     The Commissioner of Police, Mr Siu Chak-yee, led a seven-member delegation to attend the 24th INTERPOL Asian Regional Conference in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from February 7 to 9.

     The Asian Regional Conference is an important INTERPOL regional event held every two years, for senior officials from member countries to meet, exchange and make decisions for the advancement of law enforcement action in fighting organised transnational crime in the Asian Region. Over 150 senior law enforcement officers from 42 member countries and regions have participated in this year’s conference.
      
     Led by Mr Siu, the Hong Kong Police delegation is part of the Mainland delegation headed by the Head of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, Mr Hu Binchen. Members of the Hong Kong Police delegation include the Chief Superintendent of the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau, Ms Cheng Lai-ki; Senior Superintendent of the Liaison Bureau, Mr Chan Rock-sang; and Superintendent of the Joint Financial Intelligence Unit, Ms Leung Oi-lam.

     In the Asian Regional Conference, delegates met and discussed a series of policies and strategies to strengthen regional police cooperation and to combat crime in the Asian Region. Addressing the Conference, Mr Siu summarised the efforts and achievements of the Hong Kong Police Force in joining hands with member countries to combat transnational cyber crime in the past year and reiterated the importance of international cooperation amongst law enforcement agencies.    

     Meanwhile, Mr Siu also took a proactive approach in strengthening ties with member countries. In the bilateral meetings with the representatives from India, Indonesia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and United Arab Emirates, Mr Siu exchanged views with the delegates on combatting cross-regional crime, particularly in the fields of technology crime, money laundering, and financial investigation. Issues surrounding international cooperation, capacity building on combatting transnational crime, personnel training and exchange across ranks were discussed.
