LegCo Subcommittee on Matters Relating to the Development of Smart City visits FinTech and RegTech entities at Cyberport (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
 
     The Legislative Council Subcommittee on Matters Relating to the Development of Smart City visited financial technology (FinTech) and regulatory technology (RegTech) entities at Cyberport today (January 9) to learn about the role of the related sectors in facilitating the development of smart economy in Hong Kong.
      
     Accompanied by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (Cyberport Company), Mr Simon Chan; the Chief Executive Officer of the Cyberport Company, Mr Peter Yan; and the Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Financial Services), Ms Salina Yan, Members were first briefed by representatives of the Cyberport Company on the latest overview of Cyberport and the development of innovation and technology ecosystem of Hong Kong.
      
     Meanwhile, Members exchanged views with representatives of various Cyberport community companies to learn about their technology solutions and business.  They also discussed how to further develop Hong Kong's FinTech and RegTech sectors in the process of building Hong Kong into a smart city. Members then visited the office of the ZA Bank to better understand the strategy adopted by virtual banks for developing business in Hong Kong.
      
     Members who attended the visit were the Subcommittee Chairman Ms Elizabeth Quat, Deputy Chairman Dr Johnny Ng and Subcommittee members Mr Kwok Wai-keung, Mr Andrew Lam and Mr Chan Siu-hung; as well as a non-Panel member Mr Chan Chun-ying.
