The Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Alice Cheung, today (December 29) officiated at the opening ceremony for the Moreton Terrace Activities Centre (MTAC), marking the official commissioning of the MTAC initiated under the Signature Project Scheme of Wan Chai District. The MTAC will provide a new venue for the public to organise and join community programmes.

The MTAC is conveniently located at 20 Tung Lo Wan Drive in Causeway Bay, in close proximity to Tin Hau and Causeway Bay MTR stations and the Hong Kong Central Library. The MTAC is equipped with a multi-purpose hall with a capacity of around 250 people, a stage, a meeting room, a control room, a dressing room and a storeroom. The MTAC also has a multi-function room cum gallery that can accommodate around 130 people. Movable partitions and a storeroom are provided at the room. Moreover, the MTAC has a community garden cum rooftop garden. The venue also has barrier-free access facilities in place for the convenience of people in need.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mrs Alice Cheung said Wan Chai District always has a keen demand for various community facilities. The commissioning of the MTAC will certainly provide residents with more options for hosting social gatherings, enriching recreational and community services in the district and strengthening social cohesion in the community. She thanked the Wan Chai District Council (WCDC) for its invaluable advice, and expressed gratitude to the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for the generous donation in supporting the project.

Other officiating guests at the opening ceremony included the Chairman of the WCDC, Mr Ivan Wong; the Acting District Officer (Wan Chai), Ms Winnie Tong; and the Executive Manager (Community Relations) of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Mr Freely Cheng.
