"2022 Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale" being held in Mainland (with photos)
*****************************************************************************************
The "2022 Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale" is being held at the Beijing Quanyechang Cultural Arts Centre and will be moved to Shenzhen later. This year's biennale has adopted the theme of "Art, Science, Technology", and over 30 artists or art groups from Hong Kong, Macao and Mainland China were invited to take part in the biennale.

Addressing the biennale through video recording, the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Vincent Liu, said that the "Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale" was a major arts and cultural event jointly presented by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Hong Kong and Macao counterparts. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) was deeply honoured to once again co-organise this signature event to showcase the latest artistic landscape of Hong Kong and the boundless creativity of our artistic talent in front of Mainland audiences. He said he believed that this co-operation will play an active role in promoting the development and exchange of culture and arts. The LCSD would strengthen co-operation with the Mainland and Macao to promote art exchanges among the three places in the future.

The theme of this year's biennale is "Perceptual & Intellectual". The Hong Kong section exhibition is curated by the Hong Kong Museum of Art in collaboration with Art Tech Partner, Mr Ng Tsz-kwan. It features artwork installations and interactive new media creations by six Hong Kong artists, namely Joseph Chan, Chris Cheung, Tung Wing-hong, Kenny Wong and duo Samuel Yip and Janice To. The exhibition aims to present how technology - from mechanics to electronics, digitalisation to artificial intelligence - can be applied and expanded to creative works, and explore how humans communicate with nature and the inner voice through a blend of arts, science and technology.

The "2022 Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale" is jointly presented by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Government of the HKSAR, and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region. It has built an important platform for the exchange among artists from Hong Kong, Macao and Mainland China since 2008.

This year, an online virtual exhibition (www.720yun.com/vr/73a22uru9ni) has been set up simultaneously with the physical exhibition of the Beijing stop. The physical exhibition is being held at the Beijing Quanyechang Cultural Arts Centre from today until December 18, and will be moved to stage at the Museum of Contemporary Art & Planning in Shenzhen at the end of December.

The "2022 Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale" is being held at the Beijing Quanyechang Cultural Arts Centre. Photo shows an interactive immersive experience installation, "Cinemorpheque", created by Hong Kong artist Chris Cheung and his team. It was inspired by individual scenes captured from classic Hong Kong films with iconic seasonal backgrounds of spring, summer, autumn and winter. Audiences could move their hands gently in the middle of the ring-shaped device to view the transition of four-season sceneries in classic Hong Kong movies.

Photo shows an interactive immersive experience installation, "Tree of heaven", created by Hong Kong artist duo, Samuel Yip and Janice To, which simulates a virtual jungle in a fictional future. This work presents a peaceful coexistence among different species in nature. It is made possible by the audience's interaction with the work, as the audience's behaviours affect the life cycles of the various plant species.

Series, an ongoing project of kinetic mechanical video recording installation works. This set of works was inspired by the moment of intimacy through eye contact and the indefinite variables in relationships.

Each monitor performs its own rotation while playing videos of the artist gazing at his own mirror image, and strangeness is revealed by the long gaze.
