EDB introduces "Playtime with Children" series (with photos)
**********************************************************************
The Under Secretary for Education, Mr Sze Chun-fai, attended the Play with Your Children Day today (December 11) to kick start activities under the "Playtime with Children" series launched by the Education Bureau (EDB) in the 2022/23 school year. The event was held at Hong Kong Baptist University Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School, with participation from around 200 kindergarten and primary school students and their parents.

Speaking at the event, Mr Sze emphasised that the needs of children vary at different stages of development. Play is essential to children's development. Parents should spend more time with their children in parent-child games so as to experience the joy of playing together. He encouraged parents to develop a habit of continuous engagement in parent-child play, create happy childhood memories and help children grow up happily and healthily.

Attending guests included the Chairman of the Committee on Home-School Co-operation, Mr Eugene Fong; cyclist Mr Wong Kam-po and rope skipper Ms Lee Sum-yi. In the event, Mr Sze and the attending guests shared their parent-child playtime experiences, and made a pledge to create quality time with children together with the families participating in the event.

Activities of the "Playtime with Children" series aim to encourage parents to play with their children, increase mutual communication, build a stronger bond and enhance their relationship. The EDB will organise a "Call for Action: Sharing of Parent-Child Games" activity from January to June 2023, and invite parents to upload video clips of the games they played with their children onto the activity webpage to share meaningful parent-child games that help children to grow up happily.

Parents can also download the Playtime with Children Parents' Action Handbook, and capture memorable parent-child interactions in words and photos. The EDB has issued a circular memorandum to kindergartens and primary schools to encourage the participation of parents and students. For details, please refer to the relevant EDB Circular Memorandum (applications.edb.gov.hk/circular/upload/EDBCM/EDBCM22190E.pdf).

Since the launching of the "Positive Parent Campaign" in June 2020, the EDB has organised different activities to promote to parents and the public the proper ways and attitudes of nurturing children. The latest information of the "Positive Parent Campaign" has also been uploaded onto the Smart Parent Net website (www.parent.edu.hk/en/home).
