Speech by SCST at Inauguration of Jingguanlou Gallery cum Celebration Ceremony of Hong Kong Museum of Art 60th Anniversary
******************************************************************************************
Following is the speech by the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, at the Inauguration of Jingguanlou Gallery cum the Celebration Ceremony of the Hong Kong Museum of Art 60th Anniversary today (December 8):

Dr Wong (Donor of Jingguanlou Collection, Dr Leo Wong), Mr So (Chairman of Museum Advisory Committee, Mr Douglas So), distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

It gives me great pleasure to officiate at today's Inauguration of Jingguanlou Gallery cum Celebration Ceremony of the Hong Kong Museum of Art 60th Anniversary, and witness the diamond jubilee of the museum with our friends from the cultural sector.

I would now like to say a few words in English. I wish to extend my gratitude to Dr Leo Wong once again for his very generous donation. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government has always been playing an active role in facilitating the development of arts and culture. The M+ Museum and the Hong Kong Palace Museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District came on stream following the reopening of the Hong Kong Museum of Art in 2019. The three museums have their own unique positions to help stimulate the growth and add diversity to the cultural sector. The Hong Kong Museum of Art and its exhibitions have been very well received by the public with an accumulated total attendance of over 1.3 million since its reopening in late 2019 despite five times of closure during the pandemic.

The Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau is committed to enhancing Hong Kong's position as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange, reinforcing Hong Kong's leading position in the international arts market, and facilitating the development of arts, cultural and creative industries. I hope the Hong Kong Museum of Art would bring together more artists, collectors, talent in the trade and stakeholders for a collaborative effort to promote the long-term development of arts and culture in Hong Kong, thereby making a more significant contribution to the arts and culture of Hong Kong and our nation.

Lastly, I wish the celebration ceremony and the tie-in exhibitions a resounding success.
