EDB introduces Curriculum Framework on Parent Education (Primary School)
************************************************************************
The Education Bureau (EDB) today (December 6) launched the Curriculum Framework on Parent Education (Primary School). All primary schools (including special schools) are encouraged to make reference to the core strands of the Curriculum Framework when designing relevant programmes or activities, so that parents can learn in a more systematic manner the necessary knowledge and skills for nurturing their children.

In accordance with the recommendations of the Task Force on Home-school Co-operation and Parent Education, the EDB has commissioned the School of Continuing Education of Hong Kong Baptist University to formulate the Curriculum Framework. The newly-developed Curriculum Framework is a continuation of the Curriculum Framework on Parent Education (Kindergarten), comprising the same four core strands (see Annex), namely "Understanding of Child Development", "Promotion of Healthy, Happy and Balanced Development of Children", "Promotion of Parents' Physical and Psychological Well-being" and "Fostering Home-school Co-operation and Communication", with a focus on supporting the development needs of children in middle childhood.

A spokesman for the EDB said, "We encourage all primary schools to make reference to the Curriculum Framework, and select, arrange and design parent education activities according to school-specific context while other organisations, such as Parent-Teacher Associations, Federations of Parent-Teacher Associations, post-secondary institutions and non-governmental organisations, can design and organise parent education programmes or activities that meet the needs of parents of students at primary level with reference to the Curriculum Framework. Parents can also study the Curriculum Framework to understand children's development and learning needs in a systematic manner."

For details about the Curriculum Framework, please visit the EDB's "Smart Parent Net" website (www.parent.edu.hk/en/article/framework_pri).
