LegCo Subcommittee on Matters Relating to the Development of Smart City visits smart environment facilities (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
 
     The Legislative Council Subcommittee on Matters Relating to the Development of Smart City visited the smart environment facilities in Sha Tin and the Hong Kong Science Park today (December 5) to observe on site the implementation of initiatives after the Subcommittee discussed the matter in its meeting on November 22, 2022.
 
     Subcommittee members began the itinerary with a visit to the branch office of the Environmental Protection Department's Smart Command and Control Centre (SmartCCC) in Sha Tin to gain a better understanding on how the SmartCCC leverages on innovative technologies to enhance the overall enforcement and operation efficiency in dealing with various types of pollution incidents. They also watched a live broadcast of demonstration on the use of smart devices in improving and monitoring the water quality of Shing Mun River.
 
     Meanwhile, Subcommittee members received a briefing on the territory-wide sewage surveillance programme and observed a demonstration on sewage sampling to learn about its scientific and technological basis in combating the COVID-19 epidemic.
 
     Subcommittee members then visited the InnoCell at the Hong Kong Science Park to learn about the green features of the city's first high-rise building that adopted modular integrated construction, or MiC, technology. Opened in 2021, the InnoCell provides co-living and co-working spaces for innovation and technology talents.
 
     Before concluding the itinerary, Subcommittee members observed a smart public toilet in Pak Shek Kok. They learnt that the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has been piloting the Smart Public Toilet System to improve the hygiene and users experience of public toilets by using various types of sensing device and real time monitoring system.
 
     Members who attended the visit were the Subcommittee Chairman Ms Elizabeth Quat, Deputy Chairman Dr Johnny Ng and a Subcommittee member Mr CHAN Siu-hung.
