ITC launches "I&T New Era II" programme
*************************************************
The Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) will launch the "I&T New Era II" promotional programme tomorrow (November 5). The programme consists of 28 three-minute episodes which introduce the research projects and achievements of InnoHK as the flagship innovation and technology (I&T) initiative of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The videos outline how the 28 research laboratories, set up at the Hong Kong Science Park under InnoHK, are translating their impactful research into applications that bring benefits to mankind.

The Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Ms Rebecca Pun, said today (November 4), "Following the last series of the 'I&T New Era' programme broadcast from December 2021 to May 2022, introducing the research projects and achievements of the 16 State Key Laboratories and the six Hong Kong Branches of Chinese National Engineering Research Centres, the ITC jointly produced with Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) a new series of the programme, namely 'I&T New Era II'. The programme introduces the research projects and achievements of the 28 research laboratories under InnoHK in a lively and practical manner, which allows the public to learn more about their research projects. I also hope that the programme will inspire students' interest in science and research."

The HKSAR Government has allocated $10 billion to the InnoHK initiative. Spearheaded by the ITC, two research clusters namely Health@InnoHK, focusing on healthcare technologies, and AIR@InnoHK, focusing on artificial intelligence and robotics technologies, have been set up under InnoHK. The initiative involves seven local universities and research institutions as well as over 30 top-notch institutions from 11 economies and pools around 2 000 researchers locally and from all over the world for global research collaboration. Health@InnoHK will help promote the development of global healthcare technologies in response to the emerging challenges in society, such as an ageing population and epidemic outbreaks, whereas AIR@InnoHK will help enhance efficiency in the fields of finance, healthcare, construction, logistics and advanced manufacturing, with a view to building a smart city for the future.

"I&T New Era II" is jointly produced by the ITC and RTHK and will be broadcast on RTHK TV 31 at 8.25pm every Saturday starting from tomorrow. Video clips will be uploaded to RTHK's website (www.rthk.hk) and its YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/user/RTHK). Members of the public may also visit the ITC's website (www.itc.gov.hk) and follow the ITC's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ITC.HK) for the video clips and latest updates of "I&T New Era II" and InnoHK.
