CE commends teachers for teaching excellence (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Chief Executive's Award for Teaching Excellence Steering Committee:

     The Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, today (November 4) officiated and presented the Award for Teaching Excellence to six teachers at the Award Presentation Ceremony of the Chief Executive's Award for Teaching Excellence (CEATE) (2021/2022), while 13 teachers received the Certificate of Merit from the Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin. 

     Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the CEATE Steering Committee, Dr Gordon Tsui, commended the awarded teachers for their exemplary performance, "Adopting a student-centred approach, these teachers were able to flexibly deploy diversified pedagogical practices and information technology, as well as thoughtfully design intriguing and challenging learning activities in class, arousing students' curiosity. Through a wide array of learning activities, students' positive values and attitudes such as perseverance and commitment were developed, and their learning motivation and effectiveness successfully enhanced."

     Dr Tsui emphasised the importance of nurturing talents in the teaching profession and said he believed that accomplished teachers were the key to the success of cultivating such talents. The CEATE Award provided a platform for identifying talented teachers, and enabling the awarded teachers to demonstrate their successful experience, thereby fostering a culture of pursuing excellence in the teaching profession, enhancing the quality of education in Hong Kong, and nurturing talents for society and country. 

     There were 102 nominations received for CEATE. After assessment, three nominations (comprising six teachers) were presented with the Award for Teaching Excellence while five nominations (comprising 13 teachers) were presented with the Certificate of Merit in total. The awarded nominations covered themes including "Physical Education Key Learning Area (KLA)", "Science Education KLA" and "Curriculum Leadership". Assessment of nominations focused on teachers' performance in the four domains of "Professional Competence", "Student Development", "Professionalism and Commitment to the Community", and "School Development".      The Award Presentation Ceremony was held at the Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre. Other officiating guests included the Permanent Secretary for Education, Ms Michelle Li; the Chairman of the Committee on Professional Development of Teachers and Principals as well as the High-level Advisory Panel (2021/2022), Professor Alvin Leung; the Chairman of the Education Commission, Mr Tim Lui; the Chairman of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, Mr Samuel Yung; and the Chairman of the CEATE Assessment Working Group (2021/2022), Professor Lo Ming-tung.

     Sharing activities involving the CEATE awarded teachers are being rolled out gradually in this school year to disseminate excellent teaching practices. Details will be announced on the CEATE website and EDB Training Calendar.  

     The themes of the CEATE (2022/2023) cover "Technology Education KLA", "General Studies" and "Guidance and Discipline (including Career Guidance)". The assessment procedures commenced in October 2022.
