*********************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Women's Commission:

The Women's Commission (WoC) welcomed the initiatives on promoting women's development in "The Chief Executive's 2022 Policy Address" delivered by the Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, today (October 19).

Speaking on the Women Empowerment Fund to be set up under the WoC as announced by the Chief Executive in the Policy Address, the Chairman of the WoC, Ms Chan Yuen-han, said, "I am very delighted to learn that in the next three years, the Government will increase funding for the WoC from $4 million to $10 million for promoting women's development. The Women Empowerment Fund will support women in juggling jobs and family life, and unleashing their potential.

"I also look forward to the active participation by women's groups and non-governmental organisations in making good use of the Fund to organise activities that are diversified, innovative and targeted for promoting women's development." Ms Chan added that the WoC would work closely with the Government on the implementation details.

The WoC was established in 2001. Its mission is to enable women to fully realise their due status, rights and opportunities in all aspects of life. To further promote the well-being and rights of women, it adopts a three-pronged approach that entails the provision of an enabling environment, the offering of training to enhance women's capacity, and the implementation of public education.
