Dubai ETO hosts gala dinner in Dubai to celebrate 25th anniversary of establishment of HKSAR (with photos)

     The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Dubai (Dubai ETO) held a gala dinner in Dubai on September 21 (Dubai time) to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The event was jointly organised by the Dubai ETO and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
 
     More than 250 guests from various sectors attended the event, including government officials, representatives of business chambers, business leaders, as well as members of the Hong Kong community living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the UAE, Mr Zhang Yiming, and the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Dubai, Mr Li Xuhang, were also in attendance.
 
     In his welcoming remarks at the dinner, the Director-General of the Dubai ETO, Mr Damian Lee, said that Hong Kong has made impressive achievements over the last quarter century. "Since its return to the motherland, Hong Kong has embarked on an amazing journey. With our strong commitment to the 'one country, two systems' principle, Hong Kong is able to leverage on our unique competitive advantages on the global stage," he said.
 
     Mr Lee also updated guests on the latest developments in Hong Kong, highlighting that as outlined in the National 14th Five-Year Plan, the Central Government has designated Hong Kong as the centre of development in the eight key fields of finance, trade, transportation, aviation, legal and dispute resolution, innovation and technology, intellectual property trading, and art and cultural exchange. "Hong Kong will continue to be the destination par excellence for entrepreneurs and investors who want to tap into the vast Mainland Chinese market," he said.
 
     The gala dinner was part of a series of celebratory events that the Dubai ETO has planned in the member states of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. Continuing the festivities in the fourth quarter of this year, the Dubai ETO will organise seminars to highlight business opportunities for companies in the region, as well as a dragon boat festival and a film festival to showcase Hong Kong's unique cultural offerings.
