Fatal traffic accident in Chai Wan
**********************************
Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Chai Wan this morning (September 17) in which a 93-year-old woman died.

At about 8.20am, a medium goods vehicle (MGV) driven by a 48-year-old man was travelling along Yee Fung Street eastbound. When approaching the junction of Yee Fung Street and Kam Yuen Lane, it reportedly knocked down the 93-year-old woman who was crossing the road.

The woman was trapped under the MGV and rescued by firemen. Sustaining multiple injuries, the woman was rushed to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 8.45am.

The MGV driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for enquiries.

Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island is underway.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 3660 6848 or 3660 6800.

Police strongly condemn the irresponsible driving behaviour of the driver. It not only jeopardises the safety of other road users and threatens ones’ personal safety, but is also the actual cause of serious traffic accidents. Police do not tolerate such acts and will take resolute enforcement action.
