FEHD urges public to maintain anti-epidemic awareness and keep environment hygienic on festive occasion
******************************************************************************************
To minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (September 9) urged members of the public to maintain awareness of epidemic prevention, keep the environment hygienic and not litter when celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.

A spokesman for the FEHD said, "Members of the public, while celebrating during the holidays, should continue to maintain awareness of epidemic prevention, refrain from participating in crowded activities, stay vigilant and maintain personal and environmental hygiene. The Government's efforts alone will not suffice to keep the environment clean and tidy. Members of the public and shop operators have the responsibility to dispose of waste properly in public places. Moreover, the public should comply with the relevant regulations on prevention and control of disease in a concerted manner to minimise the risk of transmitting the virus."

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the FEHD will, at locations where large crowds are expected, enhance street cleaning services such as increasing the frequency of street sweeping and refuse collection. In addition, FEHD officers will step up patrols to take enforcement action against persons found littering, including issuing fixed penalty notices of $1,500.

The spokesman appealed to members of the public to exercise civic-mindedness and self-discipline, keep the environment clean during the holidays and work together to fight the virus.
