New cross-disciplinary concert "Reflections on Refractions" to be staged at Hong Kong City Hall this month (with photos)

As one of the key celebration programmes of the 60th anniversary of HKCH, two "Reflections on Refractions" concerts, led by Music Director Emeritus of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta Yip Wing-sie and accompanied with elaborate choreography from CCDC Artistic Director Yuri Ng, will bring audiences the world premiere of "AtLasT", a site-specific work written by local composer and Hong Kong Sinfonietta Artist Associate (2020-2022) Charles Kwong specially for the Concert Hall of HKCH. The music piece is inspired by the plastic partitions mounted between the musicians during orchestra performances amid the epidemic. The reflections and refractions from the sound and lighting by the partitions give the piece a unique flavour. During the concert, the musicians will appear in different positions of the Concert Hall and move with four CCDC dancers to create a unique experience for audiences.
Afterwards, Hong Kong Sinfonietta Concertmaster James Cuddeford will play Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto No. 3" and conclude the concert with Stravinsky's transcendent "The Firebird" Suite. Filled with dancers' continuous and spectacular movement, the two immortal masterpieces will inspire the audiences with unlimited imagination and possibilities for the future.
Over the past 60 brilliant years, HKCH has witnessed countless monumental cultural events, including the hosting of the first Hong Kong Arts Festival. The performing arts venue, which Hong Kong people are familiar with, has nurtured numerous local performing artists and arts groups. The Hong Kong Sinfonietta has been a venue partner of HKCH since 2009. Collaborating frequently with internationally renowned musicians and groups, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta has toured around the world and performed in over 40 cities. To promote classical music in different dimensions, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta commissions composers to create new works for it every year and strives to collaborate with artists from different disciplines for new productions.
The joint celebration concert of Hong Kong City Hall's 60th anniversary and the Hong Kong Arts Festival's 50th anniversary "Reflections on Refractions" will be staged at 8pm on September 16 and 17 (Friday and Saturday) at the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall. In order to comply with the requirements stipulated in the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation (Cap. 599F) and relevant requirements of administrative instructions, members of the public are required to scan the "LeaveHomeSafe" venue QR code with their mobile phones/other mobile devices before being allowed to enter performing arts venues managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) for necessary contact tracing if a confirmed case is found. In accordance with the Prevention and Control of Disease (Vaccine Pass) Regulation (Cap. 599L) and relevant requirements of administrative instructions, all persons entering indoor venues under the management of the LCSD must comply with the requirement of the Vaccine Pass. According to the latest requirement on the Vaccine Pass announced by the Government, all persons with their Vaccine Pass QR codes displayed in red or amber are not allowed to enter performing arts venues managed by the LCSD.
