EMSD receives from CLP Power final report on cable bridge fire incident in Yuen Long
************************************************************************************
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (August 22) received from CLP Power Hong Kong Limited the final report on the cable bridge fire incident in Yuen Long on June 21, and is reviewing the content.

In the report, CLP Power gives an account of the fire's origin, the cause of the incident and the remedial measures. CLP Power believes the fire started near the entrance of Kwong Yip Street and was related to the low-voltage electrical installation nearby.

CLP Power sets out in the report the remedial measures that have been made at all its cable bridges, including installation of additional fire-protection and fire-fighting devices, as well as replacement of all low-voltage electrical installations that may cause a fire. Risk assessment on the relevant power transmission facilities is being conducted while contingency measures are being reviewed and drills are planned to be conducted.

The EMSD and independent third-party experts are reviewing the report in detail, evaluating whether the identified cause is well founded and remedial measures are appropriate. CLP Power will be requested to make clarifications or provide further information if needed. The EMSD has also requested CLP Power to make known to the public details of the report at an opportune time.

The EMSD will continue to closely monitor CLP Power's implementation of the remedial measures as early as possible to prevent recurrence of similar incidents.
