Virtual exhibition "Imagine beyond Imagination" celebrating 60th anniversary of Hong Kong City Hall launched today (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department today (August 15) launched the Hong Kong City Hall 60th Anniversary Commemorative Virtual Exhibition entitled "Imagine beyond Imagination". Members of the public can review online the development of Hong Kong City Hall (HKCH) over the past 60 years and imagine its future as if they were travelling through a time tunnel.

The physical exhibition "Imagine beyond Imagination", which was held at the Exhibition Hall of HKCH in May this year, is now moved online, allowing members of the public to visit at any time and anywhere. The exhibition comprises seven virtual zones, namely "Imagination Embarks", "Knowledge is No Longer Mysterious", "Art Within Reach", "Irresistible Performances Wow the Audience", "Into Living Culture", "Future a Click Away" and "Future Visualised".

After entering the virtual space of the exhibition, visitors can first learn through a short video in the "Imagination Embarks" zone the idea of turning HKCH into public space to nurture the city's culture as well as its architectural aesthetics. Since HKCH's opening in March 1962, its High Block was the breeding ground of Hong Kong's public libraries and art museums. The "Knowledge is No Longer Mysterious" and "Art Within Reach" zones provide visitors with a wealth of short videos and photos to illustrate the development of the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) and the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA) over the years, as well as how the former contributed to the promotion of reading culture and the latter to promoting the arts in the city.

As Hong Kong's first public cultural and art space, HKCH has nurtured numerous local performing arts talents and groups, and many internationally renowned artists left their mark there. The "Irresistible Performances Wow the Audience" zone features precious photos and videos of HKCH over the years, many of which are the collective memories of Hong Kong people, as well as a selection of star-studded performances, showcasing the growth of the complex together with society over the past 60 years. The "Into Living Culture" zone, on the other hand, uses animated infographic design to review the development of performance venues and arts technology in Hong Kong over the years.

Illustrated with video clips, the popular interactive installations set up in the "Future a Click Away" zone of the physical exhibition allowed visitors to experience the results of the blending of technology and the arts. In the "Future Visualised" zone, the final part of the exhibition, moving scenes were projected on a virtual installation in the exhibition area. Visitors can view a collection of videos there to reminisce about important moments in the life of Hong Kong people, and highlights of spectacular performances at HKCH over the past 60 years, as well as visitors' expectations and wishes for its future.

The Hong Kong City Hall 60th Anniversary Commemorative Virtual Exhibition "Imagine beyond Imagination" is available online from now until April 30 next year. Members of the public are welcome to visit the virtual exhibition at www.hkch60a-exhibition.gov.hk or the dedicated website for the 60th anniversary of HKCH www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/hkch/index_60A.html. HKCH also produced a short video on the preparation work for the physical exhibition to help the public understand the production behind the exhibition and the scenes of each exhibition area, for a better grasp of the exhibition zones and contents of the online version. Please visit the above-mentioned dedicated website for details.
