Task Force on Public Housing Projects holds first meeting (with photo)
**********************************************************************
The Deputy Financial Secretary, Mr Michael Wong, chaired today (July 12) the first meeting of the Task Force on Public Housing Projects (Task Force). During the meeting, members discussed the overall direction for the work of the Task Force and issues to be considered.

Mr Wong said, "At today's meeting, representatives from relevant bureaux and departments reviewed the overall public housing supply for the next 10 years. In the next five years (i.e. 2022/23 to 2026/27), the public housing production will be about 100 000 units. In the second five-year period (i.e. 2027/28 to 2031/32), the public housing production will increase significantly to over 230 000 units. To this end, one of the main focuses of the Task Force is to explore how to increase the public housing supply in the first five-year period."

He said the Task Force will explore the further application of Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) and other technologies to speed up the construction of public housing. As the construction of public housing and related facilities involves different departments, the Task Force will consider how to expedite the construction and completion of public housing by strengthening collaboration among various departments and streamlining the procedures. The Task Force will also formulate practical measures, such as implementing the "Public Rental Housing (PRH) Advance Allocation Scheme" put forward by the Chief Executive through phased completion of PRH, so as to enable early intake of PRH flats by the applicants.

As there will be a significant increase in public housing production in the second five-year period, the Task Force will consider how to prepare for the increase in production by raising the overall construction capacity through various methods."

The Task Force will submit concrete proposals on increasing the production and speed of overall public housing supply to the Chief Executive by end of September.
