**************************************************************************
The Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Mr Victor Liu, attended the 57th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation, Asia and Pacific Regions, organised by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in Incheon, Korea. This was the first Conference held since the event last took place in Kathmandu, Nepal, in 2019.

The theme for this year's Conference was "Strengthening Regional Cooperation for the Restoration of Air Network with No Country Left Behind". The five-day Conference, attended in-person and virtually by more than 400 delegates from over 40 states, administrations and industry organisations, concluded successfully today (July 8). Papers covering a wide range of subjects, including aviation safety, air navigation, aviation security and the environment, as well as technical and regional co-operation, were submitted by aviation authorities and industry organisations to the Conference.

Among them, the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) submitted papers to share details of Hong Kong's experience in the application of advanced technologies to enhance the safe and efficient operations of Hong Kong International Airport, including the operation of the third runway, and the implementation of the Regulated Air Cargo Screening Facilities Scheme to enhance air cargo security. The papers received recognition and support from delegates.

During the Conference, Mr Liu also delivered the Chairperson's remarks for the ICAO Regional Aviation Safety Group - Asia and Pacific Regions, and moderated the discussion of an agenda item on aviation safety.

"This is the first time the ICAO has held the Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation, Asia and Pacific Regions amid the turbulence caused by the COVID-19 epidemic. Hong Kong is an international aviation hub, and I am pleased to take part in this Conference to share Hong Kong's experience with aviation leaders across the world, and collaborate with them on global aviation industry recovery and aviation safety," Mr Liu said.

During his stay in Incheon, Korea, Mr Liu discussed matters of mutual interest with the ICAO and various aviation authorities. The CAD will continue to maintain close co-operation with various aviation partners to tackle the challenges brought about by the epidemic, and continue to support the ICAO's global aviation development initiatives.
