Hospital Authority Chief Executive re-appointment

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hospital Authority (HA) Chairman, Mr Henry Fan, today (June 29) announced the re-appointment of Dr Tony Ko as the Chief Executive (CE) of the HA for a term of three years with effect from August 1, 2022. Dr Ko's re-appointment has been endorsed by the HA Board and approved by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
 
     Mr Fan said, "Dr Ko has held the post of CE since August 2019 and has led the HA to overcome many challenges in the past three years, in particular to cope with the unprecedented impacts of the COVID-19 epidemic with utmost effort. Led by Dr Ko, the HA has mobilised all its resources to fight the epidemic. The epidemic situation remains volatile. The HA has all along remained at its highest vigilance, and makes full contingency preparedness for the development of the epidemic.
 
     "Dr Ko has also fostered the sustainability of public hospital service through implementing smart hospital initiatives, adjusting service capacity, streamlining workflows, mobilising resources to address the pressure on service demand and establish development blueprints for the hospitals and services.
 
     Mr Fan said that to address the challenge of manpower shortages, with the support of the HA Board, Dr Ko implemented a series of staff retention measures, including extending employment beyond retirement, recruitment of non-locally trained doctors, enhancing promotion prospects and optimising the working environment.
 
     Mr Fan said that with the strong support from the Government, he is confident that Dr Ko will continue to work closely with all HA colleagues committed to the sustainability of the public healthcare service and well-being of Hong Kong people.
