"Art@Harbour" integrates science and art to create vibrant harbourfront (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has joined hands with private organisations K11 Group, Kerry Group and Sino Group to present the "Art@Harbour" exhibition. Multiple outdoor art installations and digital art façades featuring the integration of art, science and technology have been set up along the promenades of Victoria Harbour. The promenades at Tamar Park, the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section), Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hom will become even more photogenic, offering the public new interactive experiences in art appreciation.

This project contains four art programmes, including "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Science in Art" presented by the LCSD's Art Promotion Office and Science Promotion Unit, and exclusively sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC). The other programmes, made in partnership with private organisations, are K11 Group's "Symphony of the Future", Kerry Group's "Blossoming Hong Kong" and Sino Group's "Heart to Heart". The artworks will be open for the public tomorrow (June 23).

Speaking at the "Art@Harbour" opening ceremony held at the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section) today (June 22), the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, said that it was the second time in a week for her to go to the harbourfront of Victoria Harbour to officiate at a large-scale event, following last week's launch of "Summer·Harbour". This demonstrates the fact that the promenades of Victoria Harbour are not only public spaces enjoyed by members of the public, but also a large stage for displaying the latest developments of Hong Kong in culture and arts as well as science and innovation. She added that the project had been enriched by private-public partnership. She said she expected that the spirit of "community, business and government" co-operation could take root and continue to grow, spreading the development of public art and technology all over Hong Kong.

Under the "Art@Harbour" project, the Art Promotion Office and the Science Promotion Unit of the LCSD are presenting the public art project "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Science in Art", which is exclusively sponsored by the HKJC, at Tamar Park and the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section). It is one of the many initiatives supported by the HKJC's approved donation of $630 million to the Government of the HKSAR to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, demonstrating that the HKJC is resolute in pursuing its purpose of acting continuously for the betterment of society, all in support of creating stronger communities together. Local artists and art tech partners were commissioned by the LCSD to create nine sets of interactive art installations and three pieces of 3D floor graphics that combine art and science. Tamar Park and the Central and Western District Promenade have been transformed into a laboratory for artists and a studio for scientists. Drawing on the picturesque view of Victoria Harbour, the artworks integrate scientific elements such as mathematics formulas, fundamental physics and sustainable development, enabling the public to appreciate art in a new perspective. In collaboration with the art tech partner, site-specific tech initiatives and events, as well as an online interactive platform, are being introduced to engage the public beyond physical space, fuelling their imagination. In addition, a series of online and offline extension programmes will be launched including workshops and sharing sessions for the public to learn more about scientific theories and trivia in an interesting way.      The other three participating partners of the "Art@Harbour" project are presenting different art installations at the Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hom promenades. K11 Group will present "Symphony of the Future", in which sculptures and digital displays have been set up at the K11 Musea promenade, the Avenue of Stars and Salisbury Garden. Kerry Group will present the "Blossoming Hong Kong" digital art façades at the Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong and the Kerry Hotel, Hong Kong. Sino Group will launch the "Heart to Heart" digital art façades at Tsim Sha Tsui Centre, Empire Centre and China Hong Kong City. The artworks on both sides of Victoria Harbour will complement each other and enhance the celebratory ambience of the city, injecting vibrancy and innovation into the harbourfront areas through artistic creation.

Other officiating guests today included Legislative Council Member Mr Kenneth Fok; the Chairman of the HKJC, Mr Philip Chen; the Deputy Chairman of Sino Group, Mr Daryl Ng; the Director of Kerry Group and Chairman of Shangri-La Group, Ms Kuok Hui-kwong; the Executive Director of New World Development Company Limited, Mr Sitt Nam-hoi; the Acting Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Jack Chan; the Chairman of the Museum Advisory Committee, Mr Stanley Wong; the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Vincent Liu; the Head of the Art Promotion Office, Dr Lesley Lau; and the Museum Director of the Hong Kong Science Museum, Ms Paulina Chan.
